Sunday 1st December was a blustery overcast day. What a day for the Wellington Area Childrens’ Christmas Party! The wind howled around the Stopout Football Clubrooms where we were all to gather.
Unfortunately, it was too windy for Bouncy Castle, and we had to move the BBQ to a more sheltered area as the wind kept blowing the flame out. Kids and their support teams started to arrive. We were privileged to have our Grand Master, Graham Allanson and our Chief Executive Officer, Sanjv Jetly attend, as well as other head office staff members.
We had face painting. We all enjoyed seeing the children sparkling with snowflakes, holly sprays, scary ghoul faces and lifelike animal faces, and even one of the granddads sported a sparkly green shamrock (despite being a Scotsman). There were balloons, which took off outside when the doors opened. The children could also do their own thing at the colouring in and craft tables.
The sausages were forthcoming, and yummy fruit kebabs, Christmas cake and biscuits, chippies, drinks, marshmallows and all those things that make a party a success were soon being devoured by the children and their elders.
With the arrival of Mother Christmas, the serious business of present distribution was all a-go and the children were delighted with their gifts.
As the afternoon came to an end Mr Whippy arrived so we all lined up politely to get our ice creams – chocolate or sherbet coated, or with flakes, nuts and wormy critters or in a tub.
It was once again a very successful party. Thanks to Sis Pip McLean and her helpers.
